Drawings and dimensions of iron barbecues. Types of metal braziers and their optimal sizes

Many of us associate cozy gatherings in nature with a fire and a fragrant barbecue. The process of cooking meat on hot coals creates a soulful, but at the same time solemn atmosphere. A high-quality grill facilitates the process of preparing a delicious dish.

For the manufacture of this structure, several types of material are used. Basically it is: brick or metal. How to make a brazier with your own hands? You will find the answer to this question in our article. Here are detailed diagrams and drawings of homemade designs.

Model project

Before you start making a barbecue, you need to decide what material this product will be made of. Experienced craftsmen offer to make an additional system of protection against climatic conditions.

A cozy gazebo with barbecue in the country house adds a bit of warmth and comfort in the process of friendly gatherings. Here you can also hide from rain, wind and scorching sun. A partially uncovered veranda or terrace is ideal for solving this problem.

More experienced craftsmen prefer complex brazier instructions. Here, in addition to barbecue, you can bake bread, cook food and much more. The standard parameters of such structures are:

 • height 1.5m;
 • width 1.6 m;
 • the furnace depth is 0.6 to 0.8 m.

Before proceeding with the construction of such a structure, it is necessary to first make a strip foundation. Additional niches and a spacious storage system may be present here.

Making a brazier out of bricks with your own hands is quite simple. The initial stage will be the preparation of a detailed project. Next, we proceed to the arrangement of the zero base. The size of the foundation must correspond to the dimensions of the structure.

If the campfire zone will be located on the street, then it is not recommended to make complex structures here. The optimal solution would be the parameters 0.5 x 0.8 m. Here you can place from 5 to 10 skewers with meat.

There are hundreds of drawings of barbecues on the Internet, each of which has its own characteristic features and appearance. The designs differ in the type of material and size.

Metal brazier

Products made of iron are especially popular. They are distinguished by their durability and aesthetic appearance.

As a rule, they represent a complex two-tiered composition. In the upper part there are hot coals, and in the lower part there is an ash cleaning system.

A simpler option is a grill from a cylinder. The finished product turns out to be roomy and spacious. In addition to barbecue, you can cook vegetables and all kinds of food here. On one side of the cylinder, thin rods are welded using an electric welding machine. In the future, they will act as a grill.

For the construction of a metal barbecue, we need the following materials and equipment:

 • bulgarian;
 • thin metal rods;
 • semi-automatic welding;
 • electrodes;
 • metal supports;
 • powder paint;
 • spray gun for pigment compositions.

The process of making an iron barbecue is divided into several stages:

 • On the surface of the barrel or cylinder, we mark the future hole.
 • Further along the contour, we begin to cut out the upper part of the metal base. On the sides we make shallow notches. Skewers with meat will be located here in the future.
 • To make a cover on the cut off part, attach the hinges. Next, we fix the other end of the mechanism on the side of the barbecue. This will help to freely open and close the structure during operation.
 • At the bottom, we begin to attach the support legs. The base height is from 0.5 to 1 m.
 • When the product is practically assembled, you can proceed to making a grill. To do this, we weld thin metal rods to one of the side parts of the cylinder.
 • We make a handle on the lid. The thicker the metal, the less it heats up.
 • We cover the finished product with black powder paint. During operation, it does not burn out and does not emit harmful toxic compounds. The photo of the grill captures the entire sequence of the working process.

Diy brazier photos

We love, if the weather permits, with friends to fry kebabs in the open air. However, if the weather does not allow, too ... we fry. But in any weather, barbecue without a barbecue is not a serious matter. If you have a private house or summer cottage, you can make a solid stationary installation that combines a brazier and a barbecue. They are usually made partly from brick or natural stone, partly from metal. If you don't want to build something serious, you can weld a metal brazier and put it nearby - in the backyard under a canopy, in a garage, in a closet, etc. If you are a lover of outdoor recreation in any form, you cannot do without a portable barbecue. Moreover, one that will be convenient to carry / transport. Here's how to make a brazier out of metal with your own hands and will be discussed further.

We fry kebabs when the weather permits and when not ... that's why we need a barbecue at any time of the year

The size of the barbecue made of metal

Of all the parameters of metal braziers, only the height of the walls (side) remains more or less constant: it is usually in the range of 13-15 cm.If you make it smaller, nearby coals will burn the meat, if you raise it higher, you will need a lot of coals for normal frying. And we do not always have the opportunity or desire to wait until a sufficiently large number of them are prepared. So 13-15 cm is the smartest choice.

Choose all other sizes of metal braziers based on your personal preferences or circumstances:

Sometimes they also make a second plate with longitudinal holes on the bottom, like grates. Probably, this is necessary so that the metal at the bottom does not burn out, but it is quite possible to do without this part.

The designs of metal barbecues do not differ in special variety. This is a brazier with legs. The dimensions of the brazier and the height of the legs are all changes. There are, of course, real works of art, but there are simpler options for going out into nature.

Making stationary models

There are several ways. They are not very different, but there is still a difference.

Method one: with a minimum of welds

It can be used if you have a large enough piece of metal to hold the entire sweep. In this case, mark out all the dimensions found above, cut out the "extra" corners. Then carefully trim the folds with a grinder: it will be easier to bend.

We start everything by drawing dimensions on a sheet of metal, then cut out the extra corners (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

Next, we start working as a welding machine. For metal welding, 2-3 mm is best suited. Probably the brazier is the best product for a novice welder. There is no need for tightness of the seams. Holes are even welcome - air for combustion will flow through them. Having applied four seams, we get a finished barbecue box.

Bend the workpiece, then weld the seams (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

If thin metal is used - 1.5-2 mm, the bottom and walls can bend. To prevent this from happening, they can be reinforced with a corner or a profile pipe.

The bottom and walls can be strengthened so that they do not bend from high temperatures

Next, it remains to weld only the legs. They can be from corners, or pipes. The options are different, but both can be used. How to weld legs from pipes to a metal barbecue, see the photo. By the way, according to the same principle, you can make legs at a collapsible barbecue - choose the diameters so that they fit tightly. Or weld the nuts to the bottom, and cut a thread on smooth fittings of the appropriate diameter.

How to attach pipe legs to the bottom of a metal barbecue (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

Another way to make legs from corners or a profile pipe. It's even easier here: you weld in the corners.

Method two: welding a lot

This case is suitable for you if you have metal, but it is available in small pieces. Then just cut the necessary blanks, and then weld them. In this case, of course, better quality is needed: their length is much greater.

The second way to make a brazier out of metal with your own hands is to cut all the necessary parts for the box and then weld (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

After the box is assembled, it remains to weld the legs. There are no differences here. Several options are described above.

Method three: on a frame made of corners

The sequence of actions differs from the second option. Perhaps this is a more correct way: there is a frame here that will prevent the metal from bending. In general, such a homemade brazier turns out to be more durable. After the sequence of work is as follows:

 • weld a frame from corners (in the photo on the left) or a profile pipe (in the photo on the right)
 • weld the bottom to it, and after - the walls.

Well, if you are making a brazier for yourself, with your own hands, it may make sense to provide a tabletop and / or a frame for storing skewers for comfort, as in the photo below. The brazier is reinforced with a shaped tube along the upper edge. The reinforcement is welded so that "additions" can be inserted. So both the table and the skewer stand - can be inserted or not at will.

And for those who like to do everything thoroughly, there is the idea of an iron barbecue under a canopy. Nicely done. Such a metal brazier with a roof was made by a novice welder. He used this project to train:. A very good idea, and a good execution.

If you are interested in barbecues that are quickly made and do not require special skills, pay attention to.

Do-it-yourself collapsible metal brazier

For trips to nature, hunting or fishing, a lightweight portable collapsible option is more suitable. There are similar products in stores, but they are made of very thin metal and they last for a long time. Therefore, it is better to make a portable brazier with your own hands.

They are of several types:

 • folding;
 • prefabricated.

Folding (folding) braziers in a suitcase and without

Folding barbecues are made most often in the form of a suitcase. Some of them have handles for carrying. Others require a separate case or some sort of suitcase diplomat.

Brazier in a suitcase is a good idea (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

In this version, the owner made a brazier out of metal under the existing suitcase. Parts are attached to metal door hinges. They were welded with manual electric arc welding. Specifically, this model's legs are painfully thin, but these are the costs of compactness.

Another option for a portable camping barbecue. It can also be “packed” in a suitcase, but you can also sew a canvas bag: cheap and cheerful.

Another brazier that you can put in a suitcase (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

In this version, the bottom is made with folding legs. The rest of the parts fit inside separately. The sidewalls are fastened to each other by cuts that go to the middle of the height in different directions.

Another design of a folding brazier is shown in video format.

Collapsible braziers

They differ from the previous ones in that they consist of separate, unattached parts. Collected on site. The assembly methods are different - somewhere there are several bolts, somewhere - grooves and cuts. When manufacturing, welding is not needed, but you will need a grinder with a diamond disc or a saw for metal.

The prefabricated metal brazier shown in the photo resembles a children's designer. The idea is interesting, the implementation is excellent. Welding is not needed, but mastery of the grinder is necessary. If there is no skill of this level, you can finish the most difficult places with a saw for metal. If you decide to do something like this with your own hands, first make a layout in cardboard. It is advisable to take it the same thickness as you will use the metal. Assemble the finished layout, adjust it so that everything is perfect. Then you can transfer the patterns to the metal.

Brazier made of metal without welding is made of stainless steel (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

The following folding barbecues are made according to the type of those sold in stores. In them, the legs are made from corners, cuts are made in the legs in the form of tongues. These tabs are slightly bent. Holes are made in the sidewalls for these projections. When assembling, the sides are "pushed" onto the tabs.

A collapsible barbecue made of metal - it's easy to do it yourself (to increase the size of the picture, click on it with the left mouse button)

The bottom in such a model of a prefabricated barbecue is not fixed by anything. The lower part of the sidewalls is bent inward by 3-4 mm. After fixing them on the legs along the perimeter, a side is obtained. The bottom fits onto this side. Having experience in operating just such a model, I can say that the structure turns out to be quite wobbly and you need to behave with it carefully: having installed it, you will not move it, otherwise everything may fall apart. But our grill is made of a very thin metal of 1 mm. Perhaps if you use a large thickness, there will be no problem.

Another version of the prefabricated barbecue differs from the previous ones in that its legs are forged. Sidewalls are attached to them due to special plates.

And you will see the simplest of the metal braziers in the photo below. If you have two pieces of a corner and a grinder, you can make it in a few minutes. If you cannot bend, you can drill holes and fasten with a bolt and nut.

The simplest metal shashlik maker. You can do it yourself in a few minutes

Install it over the fire pit, hammering the legs into the ground. Not very convenient, but very simple. On the "fire" case will come down.

How to paint a metal brazier

If rust on metal bothers you a lot, you will have to peel it off by hand. It is advisable not to use any chemicals, work only with brushes, skins. You can paint it if you want. But paints should be heat-resistant, and even better - heat-resistant, because only they can withstand the burning temperature of firewood. There are several options:

 • heat-resistant paint CERTA (Certa) withstands up to + 900 ° С, there is a different name for the same paint OS-82-03T;
 • heat-resistant enamel Rust-oleum, can be usedup to + 1093 ° С, matte, sometimes in white, gray, black;
 • heat-resistant enamel (paint) "KO-8101" can withstand heating up to + 650 ° C, there are twelve basic colors;
 • heat-resistant enamel KO-8111 Thermica also has anti-corrosion properties, withstands heating up to + 600 ° C.

If you want to. They create a downright monumental impression. Even the simplest ones. You can practice on simple models.

Blueprints

And finally, a few drawings. Change the dimensions at your discretion, there is no crime in this.

Drawing of a collapsible barbecue

Outdoor barbecue - an opportunity to spend time in a warm company of family and friends and to please loved ones various dishes of meat and vegetables on charcoal.

The model of the barbecue oven depends on the frequency of use and where it is installed. The owners of a private house build a stone oven in their garden. This option can even serve as a summer kitchen.

Nature lovers choose mobile devices for a picnic. For barbecue outdoors metal barbecues are perfect.

Homemade metal barbecues

Metal ovens are made at home stationary, folding or collapsible... The stationary oven is additionally equipped with shelves, folding and collapsible models can be conveniently put in the trunk of a car and go into nature.

Metal barbecue easy to do independently, having decided on the terms of its use.

Benefits of metal products

Metal products have a number of advantages over options from other materials:

 1. mobile prefabricated or folding structure;
 2. democracy ovens - the ability to use scrap materials;
 3. ease of maintenance, compactness during storage;
 4. ability keep warm;
 5. strength.

disadvantages

It is worth noting the disadvantages of metal barbecues:

 1. When stored outdoors or in a damp room, the product is exposed to corrosion.
 2. Ovens not intended for installation in the premises.
 3. Barbecue side walls and bottom quickly burn outif it is made of a sheet of metal with a thickness 1-2 mm.

How to make a barbecue yourself? Product design and drawing

Barbecue at home can be made:

 • from sheet steel 3 mm thick;
 • from metal barrels (it is recommended to use a food barrel);
 • from gas balloon;
 • of drum from the washing machine.

Regardless of the intended material of manufacture, they first think over the project of the product. It is convenient to work with the drawn sketch.

Photo 1. For example - the simplest drawing of a barbecue made of metal.

Host is determined with dimensions ovens. The parameters are determined based on the amount of food that you plan to cook. They focus on the convenience and correctness of food preparation.

Reference. BBQ is suitable for home use 30-100 cm wide and depth 15-20 cm... For example, for ten skewers, the optimal oven width is 100 cm.

The manufacturing scheme is drawn up independently or taken from the Internet. The drawing indicates the dimensions of the parts so as not to be distracted by measurements in the process.

Material selection

Best suited for making a furnace sheet steel... But it's easier to make it from materials that already have the desired shape. Barbecue-shaped items are barrel or cylinder from propane.

Required tools

For this manufacturing option, you will need:

 • welding machine (if you do not know how to use welding, the parts are bolted together);
 • drill;
 • grinder, electric jigsaw;
 • bolts, keys, screwdriver;
 • metal corners, fasteners, hinges;
 • tape measure, square;
 • metal barrel or cylinder.

To protect against injury during operation use a mask, glasses, gloves.

Manufacturing steps

 1. Barrel cut in half.
 2. Build a stand for the convenience of further work. The stand will serve as BBQ legs. To do this, take pipes with a diameter no more than 50 mm and fittings. The height of the legs is selected individually. The dimensions of the stand are calculated in accordance with the parameters of the stand.
 3. Clean out the slices from irregularities and frame them with metal corners.
 4. Attach the lattice, on which cooking will take place directly.
 5. The other half of the barrel will serve as a lid. To her welded prepared in advance overlays, fasten the hinges and connect both halves. On the cover attach wooden pen.
 6. On a stand attach wood or metal countertop.
 7. Kiln fired from the inside. To do this, pour 0.5-1 l of diesel fuel, set fire and wait until the fire is completely burned out. After cooling, the barbecue is washed from soot and dried. The last step will be coating the finished product with heat-resistant paint.

Important! Ventilation holes are drilled on the bottom of the barbecue at a distance no more than 5 cmstart and finish drilling in 2 cm from the end wall.

 • With hinges the cover is attached.
 • Legs mount from metal corners. If you wish to them weld on the countertop.
 • Attach the lattice for frying and make cuts for skewers.

Collapsible models are made similarly, only bolts are used instead of welding.

How to arrange a barbecue on the site?

The stove or barbecue is located in the yard in the recreation area... The furniture is placed so that the barbecue can be approached from both sides. Then it is convenient to cook together, and the safety rule is fulfilled. In case of fire, it will be possible to leave the hazardous area.

Caution! A metal barbecue heats up quickly, if you handle it carelessly, you can get burn.

If the area does not allow to arrange garden furniture around the barbecue, a path is made to it. The path can be paved with bricks. Recreation area space should not be slippery, especially during rain, so it is covered with gravel or rubble.

A barbecue in the country is a distinctive feature of a pleasant stay outside the city with a barbecue in good company. Perhaps that is why most summer residents are happy to install a barbecue or grill in their summer cottage.

Yes, you can just buy a ready-made grill for the country, but there is something attractive in the plans to build such a grill with your own hands. A summer cottage barbecue is not only a gathering place for the whole family and an interesting element of country design,

but also a very effective thing when you need to feed a lot of people, for example, for a holiday; since the size of the surface of an amateur barbecue is usually much larger than the standard purchased one. In addition, a brazier made by hand is more durable, less whimsical in operation, and has a "warmer individual" look than a purchased one.

The task of making a brazier with your own hands can be solved by a couple of skilled hands over the weekend. There is nothing complicated in the device of a country barbecue, you can see it yourself in the drawing.

Simple barbecue device.

Furnace: The inner wall of the barbecue can be faced with refractory bricks. It is better to push the wall slightly forward for easier access to the grill grate.
Grill grate: Choose cast iron or stainless steel. Fits on corner ledges.
Foundation: concrete platform (8-10 cm) on a cushion of compacted rubble (8-10 cm) ensures the stability of the grill structure.
Brick walls: They form a closed grill frame, reducing wood consumption by 65% and protecting against hot sparks.
Ashpit: sheet of metal for fuel. Placed 20-35 cm below the grill grate.

Do-it-yourself grill or buy?

If you have bricklaying skills, no back problems and a couple of friends who are ready to help you, then you can make a brazier yourself over the weekend.

Where to place the barbecue at the summer cottage?

Determine the prevailing wind direction and position the grill so that smoke does not fly into the house or recreation area.

What to make a brazier?

Concrete foundation blocks - the cheapest building material for the barbecue. Inside the firebox, it can be overlaid with refractory bricks for greater heat retention. Outside, the grill can be overlaid with natural stone.

Natural stone - natural stone retains heat well. Plan enough time to select and fit the stone. In addition, it is good to have some kind of surplus stone in reserve, because it is difficult to predict the exact consumption of material for the construction of a natural stone barbecue.

Red ceramic brick - almost the best choice for the construction of a barbecue. Outwardly attractive, retains heat well, is not afraid of interaction with open fire. For a brick barbecue, you need a little more skill in masonry than for a concrete block barbecue.

How to heat the grill?

Use dry fruit logs, which add an unforgettable flavor to all grilled meals. Provide a place in the barbecue structure where you can put in advance the suitable logs that you received when pruning fruit trees.

Barbecue tools.

Forceps - the longer the better for your safety.
Brush from metal for cleaning the grill.
Gloves barbecue that can withstand high temperatures.

Additional barbecue facilities.

Brazier with a spit, which will make it possible to evenly fry a large piece of meat.

Brazier with chimney - will allow you to collect and remove smoke upward away from the summer kitchen or gazebo next to which the barbecue is installed.

Fireplace with barbecue - do you want to build something grandiose in the country? We build a fireplace for a patio or a summer cottage, into the walls of which we embed corners to support the grill.

The grill rack must be hot. Preheat for 15 minutes before placing the meat on the wire shelf.

Arrange different temperature zones for the grill grate by moving some of the coals to one side. Fry meat on the warmer side, vegetables or fish on the cooler side.

Do not turn the food on the wire rack every minute, so that the meat is fried, it is enough to turn it over once, frying for 5-6 minutes on one side.

Add flavor. Whatever the wood in your grill, you can always ennoble the aroma of the food you are cooking by soaking a couple of branches of fruit species in water for a few minutes and then placing them on hot coals.

Give it a rest. Leave the cooked meat to cool for a couple of minutes, so it is better to distribute the juice in it.

The correct charcoal for grilling is red with a slight touch of gray ash.

Barbecue and security.

Food poisoning. Wash your hands, buy meat in safe places. This is the best advice for avoiding food poisoning in the midst of your summer picnic.

Charred meat. Do you like well-done meat? Don't charcoal the kebab to black! Charred food particles double the risk of cancer. So that you can raise a toast to health and meat with a slight redness inside.

Carbon monoxide poisoning. Everything is good in its place. If you are cooking on the grill in bad weather and you have a crazy thought “why don’t I do this in the garage”, chase it away with a nasty broom. Indoor carbon monoxide concentrations can be dramatic for you.

Fire. At least 3 m from buildings, wooden fences, sheds, etc. will enable you to avoid colossal fire damage and serious injury.

Heatstroke. "It's so hot in here that I have enough blow." This may not be just a joke. Overheating can cause severe disease exacerbation for people with cardiovascular disease.

Casual clothes. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing with dangling sleeves or shelves when using the barbecue. A spark hitting it can produce a completely different fireworks than you planned.

Deep-frying. It is better to leave working with deep fat to professional chefs. Splashing fat particles, open fire - it is better not to overestimate ourselves, we are smart enough to understand “the game is not worth the candle”.

Watch out, wasp. Wasp stings are extremely painful and very dangerous for people with allergic reactions. Therefore, it is better to have anti-allergenic drugs in the medicine cabinet, and wear a long-sleeved shirt.

Coals and fire safety. Wait 48 hours before discarding the ash from the barbecue.

How to care for a barbecue?

Use a steel brush to clean the grill so that ash and food debris do not accumulate. Sprinkle the cooled grill with sunflower oil to prevent rust formation on it. Remove the ash after each use of the grill so as not to accumulate odors for the next cooking.

Whether you make a brazier yourself or buy a ready-made one, it will bring you many pleasant minutes when, with a barbecue in your hand, admiring an open fire in a pleasant company, you will get the much needed respite from the tense daily rhythm.

Can be made from a variety of materials. However, making a brazier with your own hands from metal is rightfully considered the best option. What metal options exist and how to make such a structure yourself?

Advantages of metal braziers

Why are metal braziers so good? A monolithic barbecue oven or its brick version is distinguished by its capital nature - in this case, the structure will not need to be removed for the winter, and it looks more reliable, stronger, more durable. In addition, the stone stove can be improved with additional working areas, which will allow not only frying meat, but also baking vegetables, fish, and smoking food. At the same time, the stove will look noble, it will organically fit into the look of any area. Should you turn to metal?

In most cases, definitely worth it. Capital structures have their advantages, but portability is far from a disadvantage. The metal brazier takes up little space, which is good for plots of modest size. You can even install such a stove on a cramped terrace or in a small gazebo. In addition, even its stationary version can be transported from place to place, albeit with minor inconveniences - and when creating a folding folding version, you can take your brazier with you to nature, even without a car.

There are other advantages to creating a metal barbecue with your own hands.

 • The structure will be completely fireproof. The materials used are resistant to high temperatures; if during the work the correct drawings were used indicating the sufficient dimensions of the metal barbecue, then even an accidental ignition of the surrounding objects is unlikely.
 • Low financial costs. While bricks, concrete, or natural stone can take a lot of money - at least in finishes - the metal costs are paltry.
 • Ease of operation. All that is needed in order to properly make a brazier from steel is the initial skills in working with a welding machine. In order to optimize the air flow, you will also need to work with a drill.
 • Manufacturing speed. Due to the large number of technological breaks, you can use a brazier built of brick or concrete in at least a month. The metal structure will be ready for use immediately upon completion of the assembly.

The downside may be the lack of aesthetics of the steel furnace. However, the appearance of any barbecue depends only on the designer and the skill of the manufacturer. One has only to look at some projects to be sure - and such a structure can be turned into a masterpiece.

Design options

Before starting work, you need to choose the type of construction, in accordance with which the drawing of the barbecue will be drawn up. The choice is made based on a number of oven characteristics:

 • optimal dimensions;
 • operating conditions;
 • location;
 • operating mode.

There are many designs of metal braziers. The most common are such models.

Not a separate type of construction, but a very peculiar option is to make a brazier from pre-prepared metal containers - read the following articles:

Various steel accessories can also be used for decoration - for example, the popular use of forged parts from Zinger sewing machines as a stand.

Making a stationary brazier

It is most convenient to consider the main stages of work using the example of making a simple stationary barbecue. There are two of them: drawing up a drawing and designing a furnace. Additionally, you can take into account the decoration (coloring) of the structure and the creation of additional elements. How to make a brazier out of metal with your own hands?

You need to prepare:

Design

When creating a homemade barbecue from metal with your own hands, you can select any size, depending on the characteristics of the operation of the furnace. The main criterion for which dimensions are selected is the amount of meat roasted at a time. The optimal sizes of the barbecue are as follows.

 • Width - 30 cm. This corresponds to the length of a standard skewer, which holds 8 pieces of meat.
 • The length can be any. It is selected at the rate of 10 cm per skewer.
 • Depth - 20 cm. This space will be enough for the coals to warm up the meat, but it will not burn.
 • The total height is adjusted to the height of the person. It is better not to bend your back during cooking. Usually the height is from 80 to 120 cm.

Having solved the issue with the dimensions, you need to determine how to paint the brazier. The paint will protect the metal from corrosion, while it itself must be resistant to weathering and high temperatures. It should not release toxins when heated. Acrylic heat-resistant paint or silicate varnishes are suitable.

Brazier design

The choice of 3 mm thickness is due to the fact that thinner metal will quickly burn out, and thicker is a waste of money. The work on creating the box is simple - you need to cut out the walls and bottom in accordance with the drawing, cut openings for air in them and carefully weld the elements together.

Thus, the work is carried out as follows.

 1. Parts are marked on the blanks and cut out with a grinder.
 2. The optimal place for air ducts is the side walls. They are drilled at a distance of 20 mm from the bottom edge in 50 mm increments. The hole diameter is 10-15 mm.
 3. Grooves for skewers are sawn along the upper edge of the side walls. The first is done at a distance of 5 cm from the end, then every 10 cm.
 4. The walls and bottom are welded to each other. It is not necessary to make a perfect seam - spot welding is enough; additional slots will only add heat to the coals. That is why it is not necessary to be a professional welder.
 5. Legs are welded to the corners of the barbecue.

This completes the basic structure. Further, you can weld handles to the ends, make a lid, weld fasteners for skewers and pokers, etc. Also, a brazier made of metal is painted: before that, you need to remove the old rust and prime the surface.

Cooker hood

It is worth considering separately. It is a trimmed pipe through which smoke is effectively removed, which under normal conditions does not allow easy cooking of meat. The hood is usually a metal dome that is either welded to the main structure or suspended from above if the oven is located under a roof.

For the manufacture of this device, the same sheets of metal are used, which are welded in the form of a truncated pyramid, at the top of which a short pipe is placed. The base area of the hood should slightly exceed the area of the barbecue.

The steel hood is easy to clean and easy to manufacture. So that it does not deteriorate over time, it should be painted with heat-resistant paint.

Features of manufacturing a collapsible structure

The manufacturing technology of barbecues made of collapsible metal has some nuances. Elements of this design are not welded, but bolted together. The principle of operation is the same.

 1. The walls and bottom are marked and cut out. Along the edges (except for the top), a few cm are added to the folds.
 2. Air ducts are made in the walls.
 3. Cuts are made along the fold lines, then the sheets are bent.
 4. Holes are made at the edges for fasteners.
 5. Holes are also made for attaching the legs. Another option is to use thin tubes. In this case, bolts are welded to the corners of the structure, to which the legs will be screwed.

A collapsible brazier with your own hands can be made collapsible only partially - weld the walls, and make the bottom on fasteners. This will make it easy to clean the ash from the oven.

How to make a traveling version of the barbecue?

Do-it-yourself folding brazier is done as follows.

When creating a folding brazier, it is better to use 2 mm steel to reduce the weight of the structure.
